This year we are proud to be offering a General Assembly experience for delegates. The Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs Committee, also known as the "Third Committee", includes a wide-ranging agenda of social and human rights issues, along with humanitarian affairs. It is a committee of the General Assembly that meets annually to discuss these issues and promote solutions by integrating a wide range of U.N. agencies. This Committee will examine the topic of improving literacy rates among indigenous peoples. Delegates will be tasked with discussing how to increase literacy rates among indigenous groups while also taking care to preserve the culture and languages of those groups. Another topic delegates will discuss is reducing vulnerability of low-income communities to climate-related extreme events, and they will be tasked with improving the infrastructure of low-income communities and of discussing how to increase the availability of disaster relief resources.
